Open Letter from Public Health Clinicians, Researchers, and Academics Regarding Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill
Drafted for endorsement by clinicians, academics, scientists, and researchers working in public health, this open letter responds to recent debates by Uganda’s President and other politicians in Uganda regarding the science and evidence around sexual orientation. Ugandan advocates have asked for solidarity from the international community in describing what the science says regarding LGBT sexual orientations and regarding the likely public health impact of the Bill. The letter will be delivered to the President and widely circulated on February 5th, just before the President’s political party begins to debate the issue on February 6th.

Recommendations include establishing an emergency task force to prevent human rights violations against LGBT people and reprogramming grant funds to provide safe spaces for LGBT people, expand access to legal services, and implement violence mitigation interventions.
