Survey on LGBT and Domestic Violence ad

Published: October 11, 2011

Hello, my name is Tovian Estella Nelson. I am a fellow on the Community Solutions Program (CSP) organized by the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), with support from the Educational and Cultural Bureau at Department of State here in the U.S. My placement for the CSP is with the Family Equality Council, where I am working on a case study on domestic violence in LGBT families.

The case study is part of my work with IREX, which seeks to help fellows acquire technical skills and hands-on best practices for leadership and professional development. The survey is intended to generate information and provide lessons that would apply to Liberia, where domestic violence and rape are two serious challenges undermining women’s peace and security.

This questionnaire seeks to elicit answers on the forms of domestic violence experienced in LGBT families, its main perpetrators and contributing factors, and prevention and protection considerations for survivors. I will be conducting this survey with LGBT partners, NGOs, individuals working on LGBT issues, LGBT survivors of domestic violence and a few non-LGBT individuals and organizations. I appreciate your time invested in this exercise and hope you will answer the questions to the best of your knowledge.
