Ricardo Peralta is also known as “Pepe” of the popular Youtube series Pepe y Teo in Mexico. Ricardo and his partners at Hornet have proposed a solution to connect social media influencers with activists across the world to address global issues such as stigma and homophobia
Ricardo and Hornet are one of twelve teams led by youth advocates from around the world who will join us for Out With It: Community Solutions for the Sexual Health and Rights of Young Gay and Bisexual Men. MPact: Tell us a little about yourself!
Ricardo: I’m from Mexico City, I’m 29 years old. I’ve been working with Hornet for the past two years as a Social Media Strategist, creating campaigns and video content and I’m a Youtuber. I have a completely LGBT channel with my best friend. Recently we wrote a book, becoming the first LGBT guide in Latin America.
M: How did you get involved in this project?
R: What motivated me to start with this project was activism. When making videos in which we touched on topics such as HIV and stigma, I began to notice a great lack of information in the community. Through my work as Youtuber, I have been tearing down the myths about what it means to be LGBT and what it means to have HIV. By working as a team with Hornet, we have created a greater impact on the message we want to give, and they invited me to get involved in this forum to share the experience I have as an influencer and as an activist.
M: Tell us more about the challenge your solution aims to address.
R: By creating a network that links influencers with activists, we can educate and empower more gay and bisexual men around the world and create greater impact. I am so lucky to be able to reach so many people with my platform. I believe that when influencers and organizers work together we can impact the health and wellness of gay men.
M: What are you most looking forward to during “Out With It”?
R: I think this new experience will be very useful for my work as a Youtuber and as an activist. I’ll be sharing everything that I’ll learn with my followers, I’ll communicate what others are doing in the world and how their work is making an impact in their communities and in the world.
The Out With It Pre-Meeting and Reception is a day-long interactive youth-led event centered around generating and refining innovative, community-led solutions for the sexual health and rights of young gay and bisexual men.
