Police: Man Harasses, Attacks Gay Couple in Seattle

Published: August 11, 2014

SEATTLE — Police say a man heckled two gay men Sunday before attacking one of them with a baseball bat.

Two men were holding hands while walking to their car Sunday night on East Pine Street when a group in a parked car began heckling them about their sexual orientation, according to police.

Two of the hecklers got out of the car and began following the couple to their car. One of the victims grabbed a baseball bat from his car to defend himself, but police say one of the hecklers grabbed the bat and hit him with it.

The victim wasn’t seriously hurt and the attacker got back into his own car and left. The victims called police and officers soon spotted the suspects near 9th Avenue and East Alder Street.

Police arrested one of the men — who was identified by the victims — and let the others go. That man, who has not been identified, was booked into King County Jail for investigation of malicious harassment.
