MSM project: a challenge to STI/HIV/AIDS.
BACKGROUND: Sex transmited infections are at present as the reasons of morbility inside the national epidemiological situation; they affect mainly the MSM population (Men who have Sex whit men) who are from 15 to 24 years old. Directly most of the cases diagnosed as persons living with HIV/AIDS is inside this group. OBJECTIVE: To stablish and execute strategy for the contribution to decrease the transmission of STI and HIV/AIDS in men who have sex whit men. METHODS: Research by means of qualitative and quantitative methods in order to know the risk perception face the STI/HIV/AIDS by means of anonimous surveys applied in meeting centers. RESULTS: 60 percent has a low risk perception, 15 percent has little information about STI/HIV/AIDS. 78 percent refers lack of stability in their couples and 85 percent do not protect in their sex relations by means of the condom negotiation. CONCLUSIONS: After the obtention of data we carried out an action and evaluation plan aimed at working directly with this population, where video debate, printing of educational materials such as folders, posters and the bolletin "Juntos" (Together), workshop for the equal promoters and secure sex in MSM, courses aimed at groups in the municipality and the province for the prevention of STI/HIV/AIDS, Workshop of Condom Social Marketing, educational chats and interventions in meeting places where educational materials and condoms are distributed. Within the achievements obtained there is the fact of having the widening of interests of many MSM for other themes linked to other risks they are exposed, as well as the insertion of human sexuality with the cultural spectrum wich is provided to them.
