LGBTIs to receive MRPs indicating X in gender

 The government has finally decided to provide the machine readable passport (MRP) to the sexual and gender minorities indicating ‘X’ in the gender option.

Director General at the Passport Department of the Foreign Ministry, Ramesh Khanal, said the Department would provide the MRP to the sexual and gender minorities giving their identity hereafter, as the Foreign Ministry has written to the Department for this.
Earlier, Chairperson of the Blue Diamond Society, Pinki Gurung, had written to the Passport Department urging to provide MRP with clear identity to the sexual minorities.
It is said the International Civil Aviation Authority has mentioned that the MRP could state male, female and X in the gender option.
Former Constituent Assembly member and rights advocate for the sexual minorities, Sunil Babu Pant, said the government’s decision to provide MRP to the sexual and gender minorities with their sexual identity was a milestone in the movement for the rights of the gender and sexual minorities.
