THE Bundaberg region is the third most homophobic in the country, according to research just released.
Almost 43% of people interviewed in the Hinkler electorate told Roy Morgan Research they believed homosexuality was “immoral”.
Only the Capricornia and Wright electorates, both in Queensland, had more people agree with the same statement.
By comparison, only about 30% of respondents in Hinkler agreed homosexual couples should be allowed to adopt children.
Barton, in NSW, and Mallee, in Victoria, were the only two electorates throughout Australia where fewer people agreed with same-sex couples adopting.
The results come from an exhaustive two-year study conducted by the research company.
Bundaberg man Danny Wallace, 21, who came out to his parents when he was 17, was shocked by the number of people who considered homosexuality immoral.
