Goa minister's 'treatment' plan for LGBTs irks community

Taking umbrage at former Goa sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar’s statements to create a treatment centre for homosexuals to turn them into people with “normal sexual orientation” has shocked the LGBT community in the city. The members pointed out that the Indian psychiatrists’ association and World Health Organisation (WHO) mention that homosexuality is not a disease.

Bindhumadhav Khire, president of the Samapathik Trust, an organization working for sexual health and rights of gays, lesbians, transgenders and intersex community raised concern over the controversial statement. Khire asked whether it was a “ghar wapasi” for LGBT community?
