Today, in collaboration with the SHAG Consortium, we are launching a new global campaign dedicated to ensuring the rights and dignity of gay and bisexual men around the world.
The Sustainable Health Advocacy for Gay men or “SHAG” Consortium is devoted to creating more supportive legal and policy environments for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men around the world. SHAG will focus on catalyzing movements to decriminalize same-sex relations and supporting rights-based programming tailored to the specific needs of gay men and other men who have sex with men. The SHAG Consortium has been formed in collaboration with MPact Global Action for Gay Men’s Health and Rights, Africagay Contre le Sida (AGCS) in Western and Central Africa, the Eurasian Coalition on Male Health (ECOM) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, SOMOSGAY in Latin America, and M-Coalition in Middle East and North Africa – with the support of the Robert Carr Fund (RCF).

The launch of this campaign coincides with International Human Rights Day, an annual celebration that commemorates the occasion on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights back in 1948. More than 70 years later, we know how much work there is still left to be done to ensure that LGBTQ people and key populations around the world have their rights and dignity respected and recognized.
