Gay Activists ask Sexual Orientation to be included in the new law on the Russian Police

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev has proposed giving the Russian militia its pre-revolutionary name back: the police. Historically, Police forces were first established in Russia in 1718 and it is after the 1917 revolution that they were renamed “Militia”.

The reform includes a series of anticorruption measures, more public control and a better regulation of the use of arms and force by the police.

"We need to take the opportunity of this reform and the public discussion that has been opened around it to ensure that the future police forces no longer deny to protect LGBT citizens" said Nikolai Alekseev, head of GayRussia.Ru
