HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community is gearing up for its next pride parade in February even as the Supreme Court upheld section 377 of IPC that criminalizes homosexuality. The group is planning an art and culture event on January 18 at La Makaan in Banjara Hills, which would act as a curtain raiser for the parade. Among the organizers of the event are organizations working for the community, including Wajood and Suraksha, and they have already started mobilizing funds.

The city had its first queer pride rally in February last year with hundreds
participating. The organizers are expecting a bigger crowd this year as members of the LGBTQ community here are more prepared. than the previous years.
The parade will also be a venue to protest the latest Supreme Court ruling. Like last year, there will be other cultural events too, organizers said.
Funds for the event will be raised through various sources, including contributions from friends and supporters, organizers said, adding that some contributions have already come in.
