In Moscow and St Petersburg, Russian Gay activists joined demos in support of freedom of assembly

n Tuesday August 31st, a group of 15 LGBT activists joined the action "Strategy 31" organized by opposition groups in Moscow. Over 70 participants were arrested by police forces including the organizers and prominent opposition politicians such as Boris Nemtsov, Eduard Limonov, Ilya Yashin and Sergei Udaltsov. None of the LGBT activists present on Triumph Square in Moscow were arrested.

Moscow Gay Pride Organizer, Nikolai Alekseev, said in an interview to GZT.RU that LGBT activists stayed on Triumph Square from the start of the action and up to the end, holding logos in support of the 31 st article of the Constitution.

The organizer of Moscow Gay Pride said that : "Our participation was not coordinated and I was surprised to see that following our appeal many of our activists came on their own initiative to support the Strategy 31"
